Why Slice of Watermelon is August’s Color of the Month

Throughout this summer, we’ve covered a selection of colors including vibrant yellows and cooling blues, and now it’s time to round out the season inspired by a magenta, playfully named Slice of Watermelon (DE5068), an excellent august color. This hue not only reminds us of days spent at the barbecues, eating the juicy fruit from the rind — it also glows with an internal heat which is apt for the hot month of August.

Magenta is the Color of Now

The rise of cottagecore and grandmillenial style, which emphasize a kind of return of rural simplicities and traditionally feminine motifs, has ushered in an appreciation for pinks, magentas and rose hues. This spring, we saw the big return of these shades. • Lean into the lure of summer cottage style with a mouth-watering magenta like Slice of Watermelon by going bold with magenta interior cottage doors.
• Add comfort and a little spice to a dining room with Slice of Watermelon, which brings the right balance between warmth, depth and a vivid splash of color. Pair the shade with a light mushroom color called New Wool (DE6073).
• Try making a rosey magenta sofa the focal point of your sitting room or lounge space and then keep the room bright and airy with a white on the walls containing gentle pink undertones like Gardenia (DEW337).
• Or establish a true mood in the space with another magenta in Slice of Watermelon’s color family like Cherry Hill (DE5069) on the walls with art and accents for the room in a gray-blue like Your Shadow (DE5921) or Pencil Lead (DE5922).
• Have fun in the bedroom with a monochromatic Morrocan-inspired magenta escape, channeling inspiration from Claire Thomas’s Yucca Valley getaway, Oeste.
