Modernism Week 2018 Recap
03/12/2018 | dunnedwards |
We're wrapping up another successful Modernism Week filled with tours, films, lectures and more. Palm Springs’ annual Modernism Week recently brought thousands of Mid-century Modern enthusiasts together to celebrate this highly distinctive style. The annual event fosters greater appreciation for Mid-century Modern design, architecture, art, fashion, culture and — of course — color. Dunn-Edwards was proud to, once again, sponsor the event and partner with a range of properties and designers to make this year’s Modernism Week the most colorful yet! Almost 900 gallons of our paints were used at this year's events. Here are the highlights:
Recently revamped by Thomboy Properties, “Hidden Frey” — designed in 1966 by renowned architect Albert Frey — is an exceptional Mid-century tennis estate originally known as the Hollingsworth. The home got its clandestine name because the lot was excavated below street level to minimize the home’s visibility. Dunn-Edwards partnered with Thomboy to revamp this small but extraordinary property, which offers a rare glimpse of Desert Modernism at its finest.
“Moroccan Modern,” also by Thomboy Properties, is a late-modern home built in 1975 in south Palm Springs. This home opens with 10-foot-high, double-entry doors painted a stunning pink (Pink Dahlia • DET419) that invite visitors into total seclusion. Magnificent details and bright, bold colors reflect the matchless beauty of Morocco, creating a unique fusion of past and present.
Palm Springs Door Tour
Once again, Dunn-Edwards Paints celebrated Mid-century Modern style by partnering with Palm Springs Style in presenting the 2018 Palm Springs Door tour. Spotlighting 14 bold and beautiful entries found in some of the area’s best neighborhoods, this self-guided bike tour served as a highpoint of each Sunday during the show.

The Saguaro Hotel
If you like color, you will love the newly repainted Saguaro Hotel! We were thrilled to work directly with the architects in choosing a range of 14 vibrant, playful hues that reflect Palm Springs’ desert wildflowers and plants — creating a space in which all visitors feel happy and welcome.
ENDURALASTIC 10 in custom colors
Palm Springs has recently enjoyed a bold and beautiful color renaissance. For example, the historic Sunrise L’anai, in partnership with Dunn-Edwards, recently finished a total exterior renovation. With its distinct “Swiss Miss” architecture, the condominium complex makes a definitive statement with its blend of tropical Polynesian Tiki style and A-frame roofs reminiscent of Swiss chalets.
