Celebrate Life’s Adventures: A 2018 Color + Design Story
07/17/2017 | Sara McLean |
Fiction or fact — through myths, lore and legends — oral storytelling recalls the historical narratives of cultures and people throughout the world. The call to adventure and new worlds are for those who desire to be transported to faraway lands, creating a life filled with personal stories of adventures and lessons. Introducing trend story 4 from our 2018 Color + Design trends report, Adventures!
Adventures is for those seeking the exceptional journey to faraway and imaginary lands filled with extraordinary sights and sounds. The magical spirit invades the senses, creating the path of the Bohemian collector. Those who are influenced by Adventures are focused on the pleasures of friends and family, creativity and cherishing the little moments. The home is filled with curated items of luxury craftsmanship and exotic collections of unknown origin.
Adventures highlights color and design that is inspired by global treks, fusions of historical craftsmanship melded with modern sensibilities, and an aesthetic that tells a timeworn, personalized story of
life — the path less traveled by others. To achieve this mood, design must be refined, yet rustic. Craftsmanship is key, paying homage to local artisans. Materials are highly textural, with globally-influenced motifs and patterns displaying hints of origin. Refined organic shapes, subtle primitive effects, and exotic jungle influences are key.
Color is dense, colorful and dark—colors from beneath Earth’s surface. The deep, dense colors
found in nature range from lava red to black volcanic rock, emerald and jungle greens to amber, earth brown and mystical purple. To complement the palette, a warm, rich, cozy color range of curry, rust, deep brown, mallard, coral and blue are suffused into the storyline.
