Meet Krystal Hill, Dunn-Edwards In-Home Color Advisor

Every design journey starts somewhere, and for Krystal Hill, it began with a spark of curiosity that grew into a passion. As a child, Krystal found joy in making her surroundings beautiful—decorating the house with floral arrangements she would make with flowers she picked, balloons, and stones. Her interest in design grew further watching Grace's interior design adventures on "Will & Grace."

After growing up and earning her degree in Interior Design from Chaffey College, Krystal joined Dunn-Edwards in April 2022 as a Professional Color Advisor. Recently, she accepted a hybrid role, still serving as a Professional Color Advisor part-time, then serving as an In-Home Color Advisor on the other days. For Krystal, expanding her role and services to the home seemed like the perfect way to fully envision projects alongside customers, with the ability to view lighting, furniture, and other factors before recommending paint colors.

To understand a client's vision, Krystal always begins with a simple question: "Do you have any ideas what colors you're thinking of?" This opens the door to broader conversations that aren't just about painting; she lets the client fill her in on flooring, roofing, and other design aspects. "Color is a big deal," Krystal says, so getting the full picture helps her decide on best recommendations.

She encourages clients—especially couples navigating different opinions—to test samples in their lighting and space. Seeing the colors sampled in their own home often helps clients come to a confident decision and, sometimes, even a compromise for couples. "I try to make it between them and not me," Krystal jokes, adding with a laugh, "I'm not a therapist!"

One of Krystal's recent client success stories was for an exterior project. Her color recommendations, which included Muscat Blanc (DET676) and Espresso Macchiato (DET680), resulted in an elevated look for the home and a satisfied client.

As for her favorite colors, Krystal is drawn to blue and blue-green hues, including Dunn-Edwards Color of the Century, Viridian Odyssey (DE1925), and Brooding Storm (DET604).
