Bob Baker Marionette Theater’s Grand Opening

As the official paint sponsor of the new home of Bob Baker Marionette Theater, we’ve written about this treasured Los Angeles institution and its move earlier this year to the Highland Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. In a happy turn of events, the marionette company found its new home at the York Theater, once again bringing entertainment and performance to this historical 1920s-era silent movie palace.

While Bob Baker Marionettes soft-launched at its new digs this summer, its formal grand opening, complete with official ribbon cutting and plaque dedication to Dunn-Edwards, will be held on November 29. The event is free and open to the public from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Leading up to the main event, the theater will be celebrating all month long with special programming including a Welcome Wagon Revue, a puppet/variety comedy hour and celebration of Bob Baker’s historic connection with Disney.

Dunn-Edwards is proud to be a part of the continuing legacy of Bob Baker’s Marionette Theater and honored to receive a dedicated plaque at the new space.

Creating a new chapter for the marionette company started when volunteers and artists envisioned preserving design elements from the troupe’s former home, most notably “re-hanging” the faux red velvet theater curtains and gold tassels that had been painted in the '80s. Partnering with the artists to create this vision, Dunn-Edwards color matched the berry-red color (referred to as Bob Baker Red) of the original “curtains” to ensure that when they were repainted in the new space, they would be as close to the originals as possible.

Bob Baker Marionette Theater will continue honoring its history while drafting its future, this month playing a November-only show called “Welcome Wagon Revue: 56 Years of BBMT,” featuring the theater’s most beloved puppets and favorite routines with more than 100 performers singing in an hour-long extravaganza.
