A New LA Landmark: The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art

Legendary director George Lucas and the Board of Directors of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art announced plans to build the museum at Exposition Park, in downtown Los Angeles, CA. For some time, Los Angeles has been in competition with San Francisco, CA and Chicago, IL to host the museum site. By winning out, Los Angeles continues to increase its identity as one of the world’s destinations for art and culture.

Designed by Ma Yansong of MAD Architects, the Lucas Museum features a bold new architectural design, and will be a one-of-a-kind gathering place to experience collections, films and exhibitions dedicated to
the power of visual storytelling and the evolution of art and moving images.

The museum will present original work by world renowned and emerging artists, cutting-edge digital technologies, and daily film screenings in state-of-the-art theaters, as well as extraordinary educational opportunities for students of all ages.

Named for the narrative art movement, Lucas’s vast art collection of over 10,000 pieces includes many narrative art pieces. He stated, “Narrative is one of the oldest and most important impulses in art. It is also
the most popular form of art. Tracing the arc of narrative art reveals how culture is created, reinforced, and then compelled to evolve.”
