Meet Emily De Leon, Dunn-Edwards In-Home Color Advisor

Emily De Leon’s road to color consulting has been shaped by curiosity, education, and a love for design. After earning degrees in Liberal Arts and Psychology from Orange Coast College, Emily shifted gears and followed her passion—interior design. She is currently finishing her Interior Architecture Degree at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Before relocating to Nevada, Emily attended interior design courses at OCC. A Professional Color Advisor from Dunn-Edwards visited one of her classes to share product knowledge and insights into the color advisor role. Later in 2021, Emily moved to Nevada and thought back to that classroom moment, searched Dunn-Edwards online, and saw a job opening.

Emily was hired at Dunn-Edwards in early 2022 as a Professional Color Advisor and now serves in a hybrid role that allows her to work both in-store and directly in clients’ homes. The hybrid In-Home Color Advisor position gives Emily the opportunity to observe client spaces, lighting, and other physical factors, before recommending color.

When it comes to her color services, Emily takes a collaborative and honest approach with clients. “I always try to be truthful with them,” Emily says. “It’s a lot of educating the customer.” She encourages every client to sample—especially after helping one homeowner repaint twice before they finally agreed to sampling colors.

One of Emily’s most recent projects was for a repaint on a dated home that was being transformed into a showroom for a landscaping business. After the on-site color consultation, Emily provided four color palette options—keeping the front yard filled with countless landscapes in mind. The clients were naturally hesitant, as choosing the paint colors for a project like this is not a light decision. Nonetheless, they ended up following Emily’s advice. The chosen palette elevated the home with a modern look, resulting in satisfied clients.  “They trusted me, and now they’re really, really excited about how it turned out,” Emily shares.
