What is the influence of color? This was the topic of conversation at the Dunn-Edwards 2020 Trends Event held at ORLY® Color Labs in Hollywood, Calif., on Nov.14. The event was a preview and celebration for the brand’s 2020 Trends Collection that features three unique product collaborations spanning the worlds of beauty, fashion and home. Each of the limited-edition collections showcased colors from the Dunn-Edwards 2020 Color and Design Trends, including the 2020 Color of the Year, Minty Fresh.
Founded in 1975, ORLY — the formulator of top-selling nail polishes — is a Los Angeles-based company that began as a family-owned company and remains one today. The collaboration with ORLY Color Labs includes existing ORLY shades that match Dunn-Edwards paint colors. The three-piece nail polish collection includes ORLY’s Big City Dreams, Everything’s Peachy and Green with Envy, which correspond with Dunn-Edwards colors Minty Fresh (DE5687), Glazed Sugar (DE5169) and Teal Me No Lies (DE5732), respectively.
"Working with Dunn-Edwards felt like such a natural partnership,” said Tal Pink, ORLY’s vice president of business development. “ORLY and Dunn-Edwards are two iconic L.A. brands founded with a shared purpose of bringing cutting-edge color trends and finishes to life. We are excited to release a limited-edition trio of three nail colors to match Dunn-Edwards colors of 2020. Our L.A. experiential space — ORLY Color Labs — where visitors are invited to create their own nail colors, became the ultimate canvas for this collaboration through a Dunn-Edwards commissioned mural from Katie Thierjung, which is on display through spring 2020."
Lauren Valenzuela, owner and maker of Sigfús Designs, describes the essence of her brand as “a little bit desert, a little bit retro, and a whole lot rock ‘n’ roll.” The Sigfús Designs earrings set features five polymer clay
earrings in bold and unique designs. The collection showcases eight 2020 Trends colors: Moss Cottage (DET608), Glazed Sugar (DE5169), Black Tie (DE6357), Gold Gleam (DE5452), Singing the Blues (DET576), Indigo Night (DEA138) and Minty Fresh (DE5687).
“It was so fun to look through the different color stories and see which one spoke to me the most,” Valenzuela said. “I really liked each of them but, in the end, I chose to get out of my normal comfort zone and I picked The Silk Road because of its deep rich jewel tones. I loved the freedom of designing within this palette and found it
interesting how each of these colors was so unique, yet they totally complemented each other. I loved one of the main colors — Moss Cottage — so much that I painted the wall in my studio in the same shade. For my collection, I made five styles and they have been getting great feedback from my customers. Working with Dunn-Edwards was a dream collaboration and an amazing opportunity. I'm so grateful.”
Le Feu de L’eau
Le Feu de L’eau or “fire of the water” isn’t just the name of the French-inspired candle brand founded by Wendy Polish and Jo Strettell. It’s also the process her father invented in the 1970s that involves pulling hot wax through water to create the colorful candles. The Le Feu de L’eau candle set includes seven natural and eco-friendly tea lights in a pastel green inspired by Minty Fresh (DE5687). The California Piñon Pine Desert scent evokes the grounding and upbeat energy of nature that also influenced the water-soft and mentholated green named the 2020 Color of the Year.
