Pantone Announces the 2016 Color of the Year

Design Trends

A first for Pantone©! The company as announced two colors, Rose Quartz (13-1520) and Serenity (15-3919), as their colors of the year for 2016. The blending of these two colors alludes to the seeking of balance and well-being in a world filled with chaos. Leatrice Eiseman, executive director, the Pantone Color Institute©, explains, "Joined together, Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness, as well as a soothing sense of order and peace."

The combination of Rose Quartz and Serenity also alludes to the gender blur trending in fashion, challenging the traditional perceptions of color and gender. More of the world's population is increasingly comfortable with using color as a form of expression, rather than as an identity inclusive of traditional gender stereotypes.

As a reference tools, the closest Dunn-Edwards color cross-matches are DE6022 Marshmallow Rose (Rose Quartz) and DE5892 Blue Cue (Serenity).
