Art in the Streets at MOCA

From graffiti to tattoos, tricked out cars to surfboards, street art made its museum debut at Los Angeles' Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) with the “Art in the Streets" exhibit. Wild splashes of color commanded attention from every angle - a face, a word, a statement, a juxtaposition of images. Art so raw it burst with a beauty of explosive expression from creative minds on the fringe of society -- hip hoppers, punk rockers, cholos, surfers, skateboarders – they all have a place in this gallery. “Art in the Streets" boldly attempts to chronicle the movements that rose up from subcultures to challenge the very idea of art.
