Until recently, it was forbidden for anyone to open the pages of the Manual of Calligraphy and Painting (Shi zhu zhai shu hua pu). Created by Ten Bamboo Studio in 1633, the book was simply too fragile to touch. However, it’s the earliest example of “polychrome xylography” (a multi-colored printing technique) so recently the University of Cambridge digitized, revealing it to the world for the first time.
