At this year’s North American color and design trends panel for Global Color Research™ and Mix Trends publications — a color thinktank comprised of experts in design, architecture, color and interiors — got together to predict the next wave in interior color trends.
The Mix Trends panel for North America included representatives from Call Designs, D'Aquino Monaco, Hunter Douglas, Kimberly Clark, Merck, Dunn-Edwards Paints® and arQitecture. The discussions and stories were as varied as the representatives — spanning themes such as “savage beauty,” “cool winter beaches,” “domestic detail” and “the digital power of imagery.”
Mark Woodman, Global Color Research’s U.S. color expert noted, “Global Color Research’s stories, as they emerge during studies, have world-spanning relevance. From Asia to North America and everywhere in between, we grasp the broad stories that help connect us in the world.”
The team predicted a handful of upcoming trends and hand-picked a series of color palettes to match. Here’s a sneak peek at what’s to come:
The future is human
. Whether in response to technology, mass production or the desire to be children again, the theme of humanity coursed through discussions. Manifesting itself in the hand-drawn instead of computer-generated, handmade art or even in DIY, it adds a warmth missing from technology. As key influences on humanity, the environment and the economy continue to impact color choices.
